UPDATE: Visit this page for more recent information. At the October meeting the Board of Managers voted to delay the change until 2024.
Effective October 1, 2023, Minnesota SAR is raising its dues and fees. This was discussed and then approved as a Standing Resolution by the Board of Managers at the February meeting. The bottom line: we ran losses for 2 years in a row, and we need to stop doing so.
We will charge the state new rates starting October 1 for both new members and for 2024 renewals. Renewals and applications submitted before that will use the earlier rates. Later renewals and applications will use the new rates. Here are the changes to state rates:
| Type of State charge | Before 1 Oct 2023 | After 1 Oct 2023 |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly State Society Dues | $6.00 | $9.00 |
| Yearly Chapter Dues | $6.00 | $8.00 |
| Supplemental Application Fee | $5.00 | $10.00 |
| New Member Application Fee | $5.00 | $20.00 |
The state+chapter increase is $5 a year.
Increasing National Dues
There is a plan afoot to increase the national SAR dues, which all members must pay in addition to state dues. The decision will be made at the National SAR Congress this summer. If the national society follows their earlier pattern, revised dues will become effective as soon as the resolution is passed. The Congress convenes on Friday, July 14, 2023. New member applications approved by the State Society before that date and submitted to National will undoubtedly pay the existing National fees.
While the details of the national dues increase aren’t certain until Congress actually passes a resolution, the current rumors propose an increase of $15 a year. Thus, national dues go from $35 to $50 (excluding state dues). Last year, the dues for Minnesota (chapter, state, and national) were $47 a year. If we add the anticipated national increase to the state increases, the dues go to $67 a year.
