Application Fee Increases

The Minnesota Society has increased its application fees as of the first of this year. The economical but loss-producing fee of $5 for any application has been increased to $10 for Supplemental Applications and $20 for New Member Applications. These increases were approved last year by the Board of Managers. Total costs for applications are now as follows:

New Member Application: $182.00
Supplemental Ancestor Application: $110.00

There are still discounts for special cases. Young applicants whose application uses a proven line of descent of a close relative in either the SAR or DAR save $60. Two or more “family plan” applications save $60 on every application after the first one. Under the family plan, two or more close relatives send in applications together that all use the same patriot’s line of descent. Members of the Children of the American Revolution pay no application fees at all; they only pay dues for regular or junior membership, depending on their age.

While the state society tries to keep fees as low as possible, the $5 did not come close to covering application costs. The $10.00 fee covers most costs for the State Genealogist/Registrar, but not Secretary or Treasurer costs. The Supplemental fee was kept low to help encourage genealogical research leading to additional registered patriots.
