We regret to report that our former State Society President James Fredrick Foster, age 83 of Red Wing, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Jim was a native of Albert Lea, Minnesota. He and his wife Donna lived in Red Wing. As of 2002, he had two grown sons, Sidney and Fred, and four grandchildren. Jim worked in manufacturing, engineering and machining for over 38 years.
A Memorial service took place on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Red WIng. Visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery Columbaruim, Red Wing. In lieu of flowers Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church or donors choice.
Jim Foster joined the Minnesota SAR to honor his ancestor, Jedediah Wellman. He is listed on the muster roll of Keene, New Hampshire of 1773. He was one of 117 officers and men of the Foot Company, 6th Regiment NH Militia. Records indicate that some members of the Foot Company were among reinforcements summoned to Lexington and Concord. They also participated in the Battle of Bennington.
Jim served the Minnesota SAR in several offices: St Paul chapter VP 2002-4, St Paul chapter president 2005-6, State VP 2007-8, and State President 2009-10. He also took part in the Color Guard, presented ROTC medals, and served as State President for the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Minnesota.
