We regret to report that our compatriot Alan Bruce Humrickhouse, age 94 of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He was at his home at River Grand Senior Living, surrounded by loved ones. His obituary was published in the Brainerd Dispatch.
Bruce was born in 1932 to Alan and Marion Humrickhouse in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Little Falls High School then attended Dunwoody Industrial College for machinist training. Bruce married Emmy Koprek on March 26, 1951.
Bruce enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He later continued his military career as a member of the Army Reserve, retiring after 21 years. He was very proud of his years of service in the U.S. military.
Bruce spent his 31-year career in forestry and became a leader in the state’s aerial fire suppression program. He flew lead plane on many fires in Minnesota and throughout the country during the 70s and 80s. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources as a forestry supervisor and chief pilot in 1991.
Bruce was an active member of the Episcopal Church, the Masons, the Sons of the American Revolution. The Minnesota SAR presented him with the Military Service Medal in 2020.
